7 Tips to Stay Motivated

Staying motivated to keep training and healthy can be hard. Here are some of my tips that help keep me motivated and consistent:

1. Set micro-goals

Having and achieving small goals consistently is a great way to stay motivated to continue eating healthy and working out. It’s always fun and exciting when you start a new training cycle or fitness program, but constantly chasing a large goal that you feel is only achievable in a few months or even years can get demotivating. So why not focus on the little goals that will get you there? Consistently reaching smaller milestones will keep you motivated AND focused on your big goal.

2. Reduce time on social media

The saying “comparison is the thief of joy” really couldn’t be more true when it comes to social media. If you find you’re spending a lot of time on the Gram and it’s affecting your self-esteem or your motivation, find another activity to occupy your time.

3. Find a workout buddy

Find someone to go on this fitness journey with you! Find communities of people online doing something similar, find an accountability partner or even someone at your gym that you can set gym dates with. Having someone to hold you accountable and keep you on track when your own motivation is low can be the key that keeps you constantly moving forward!

4. Track your food

If you don’t feel like you’re making progress, track your food so you know exactly what is going in. It’s easy to lose track of the extra cookie or the amount of water you’re drinking, so find an app or a small book where you can write down what you’re eating. What you write down, you can measure and what you measure you can adjust to reach new goals!

5. Have fun with your training

Is your training getting boring? Change it up! Join a new class to keep your mind or your body on your toes, or get outside to do something different like rock climbing or hiking. Even something as small as training in a different environment can keep you motivated and get you out of that rut. Check out something like FitKey if you’re wanting to change up your fitness routine.

6. Learn to rest

Make sure your body is getting enough rest and recovery so that you can stay consistent in your training. If you take consistent rest days, it means your body can get the break it needs to keep working for you efficiently and get you those results. It’s easier to take a rest day when you don’t feel you need it and get back on the wagon quickly then have to take a few days of due to fatigue or even injury.

7. Keep track of non-scale victories

You might not always see progress on the scale or in the gym, but taking note of “non-scale victories” like your clothes fitting better, having more energy in the morning or being able to walk up the stairs keeps that motivation flowing!

What are some of the ways you stay motivated? I’d love to know!

Yours in health
